NICE issues series of rapid COVID-19 guidelines

NICE has developed a series of rapid guidelines with NHS England/ Improvement on the active management of patients in a number of clinical areas.

The first of the rapid guidelines covers the management of patients in critical care, those who are having kidney dialysis and patients who are receiving chemotherapy, quickly followed by guidance on the provision of radiotherapy services and bone marrow transplant during the COVID-19 pandemic. New guidelines have also been issued on the management of patients with severe asthma, pneumonia, rheumatological autoimmune, inflammatory and metabolic bone disorders and the management of COVID-19 symptoms in the community.

The latest, in the series includes guidance on cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and dermatological conditions treated with drugs affecting the immune response. However, further guidelines are anticipated and will include acute cardiac injury and immunosuppressant medicines for gastrointestinal conditions.

NICE plans to make the guidelines internationally available so that health systems around the world can see the approach the UK is taking. Visit:
