Dr John Byrne has been appointed executive medical director at Humber NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Byrne has recently completed a three-year contract with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the national health and social care regulator.
As general practice regional adviser for the CQC’s Birmingham-based primary medical services team, Dr Byrne provided clinical leadership to its specialist adviser workforce and supported the development and implementation of annual inspection plans for more than 2,000 GP inspections in the central region.
“John’s clinical, regulatory and quality improvement experience, excellent commercial skills, strong record of partnership working and relentless focus on high-quality patient care make him an outstanding addition to our team,” said Trust chief executive Michele Moran.
“I’m delighted he is joining us and excited about the prospect of working with him to expand and improve our services so we continue to deliver excellent patient care.”
Dr Byrne said: “I’m thrilled to have been given an opportunity to work with a talented and committed team to transform and improve the quality of the services provided by the Trust and its partners in Hull, the East Riding, Whitby and beyond.
“Although there are challenges, there are many opportunities, and I will use my clinical and quality improvement experience, particularly those aspects gained through leading innovation and change, to ensure the Trust makes the most of them.”
