Cook Urology has drawn attention to the wide global use of its Resonance Metallic Ureteral Stent – over 1,000 stents have been placed in patients around the world.
Current research indicates a dramatic rise in cancers such as those affecting the ovaries and prostate. These cancers often cause extrinsic ureteral compression that blocks part of the urinary system.
The increase in gender-specific cancers has led to a more aggressive approach for treatment. This, in turn, has led to a greater awareness of the need for ureteral drainage during chemotherapy-based cancer treatment.
The Resonance Metallic Ureteral Stent incorporates a specially designed metallic hollow tube that relieves obstruction in the ureter. With normal drainage, the patient is able to channel toxins produced during chemotherapy without the need for placement of a nephrostomy drainage tube during treatments. The Resonance Metallic Ureteral Stent has a 12-month indwelling time that allows for normal long-term renal drainage – it eliminates the need for numerous and painful stent changes.
