Homerton introduces digital radiography system

Homerton Hospital in London has gone live with its first digital radiography system, the AXIOM Multix MT digital X-ray system from Siemens Medical Solutions.

The choice of new system was based on its advanced technology, superior image quality, ease of use and the reduced patient handling, which improves workflow.

The new system makes digital images immediately available, enabling radiographic examinations to be conducted much faster and reducing the number of retakes. This is particularly crucial for examinations where time is critical, such as where a thorax examination must be conducted before emergency surgery can be performed.

The AXIOM Multix MT’s image quality means that even fine details are clearly visible, and its specially developed software algorithms enable it to depict even the most difficult to capture areas of the human anatomy accurately. It also handles overview exposures of the chest and spine more easily through allowing both landscape and portrait format positioning.

The system’s versatility reduces patient handling through its mobile flat detector, ceiling-mounted stand and height-adjustable table, as well as electronic tomography. This allows optimal access to the patient from all sides, including underneath the patient, reducing the need for the patient to be moved. Patients can be examined directly in bed, on a stretcher or in a wheelchair.
