Bill aims to repeal NHS marketisation

Eltham Labour MP, Clive Efford, has introduced aprivate member’s bill to repeal the market framework in the NHS. The bill would repeal elements of the Health and Social CareAct.

According to the British Medical Association the Bill would seek to abolish the ‘Section 75 rules’ that embed competitive tendering into the NHS commissioning process; scrap the competition framework; end any role for the Competition and Markets Authority in the NHS; and change Monitor’s role as an economic regulator enforcing competition in the NHS.

The BMA has been calling for the act to be repealed through its ‘Health and Social CareAct …it’s not working’ campaign. BMA council chair Mark Porter said the association welcomed the debate the bill would trigger when it is discussed by MPs in November.
