Limbs & Things, a designer and manufacturer of medical training simulators, has been recognised for its innovative contribution to skills training in medicine with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
Since hospital doctor’s hours had been reduced, healthcare directives were issued guiding medical skills training towards the use of hands-on models. Patients did not like to be used in the training process and the Medical Charter stopped doctors from doing so. With this in mind, Limbs & Things was founded to create a system of skills training away from the patient and operating theatre; this type of training takes place early on in the career of healthcare professionals and is designed to establish skilled technique and understanding of the procedure.
