Three organisations have been shortlisted for this year’s Shared Learning Awards out of around 60 entries from across the NHS, local authorities, and the voluntary and private sectors.
The winning entry will be announced during NICE Annual Conference, which takes place from 15-16 May in Birmingham. The three shortlisted entries are Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for its work on improving the care of newborn babies with brain injury across the East of England; Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust for improving the quality of care for people with alcohol problems through implementing the NICE alcohol use disorders guidelines; and West Middlesex University Hospital for assessing the impact of implementing a hospital discharge chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) care bundle on the respiratory ward at West Middlesex University Hospital. The awards were established by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to recognise and reward innovative ways of using and implementing our guidance and to encourage shared learning. Last year, the prize was won by Manchester Royal Infirmary for their work in transforming haemodialysis treatment in Manchester. Other former winners include a specialist eye service in Birmingham that used NICE guidance to help save the sight of nearly 450 people in its first year, and the Staffordshire branch of the national charity Addaction for putting NICE public health guidance on needle and syringe programmes into practice to improve the quality of their local service
