A new online toolkit has been developed with the NHS to showcase best practice in staff engagement at 10 NHS organisations. The toolkit was launched by the NHS Employers organisation and the Department of Health at the NHS Confederation conference.
The toolkit is called “Engaging your staff: the NHS staff engagement resource.” It uses evidence from the NHS staff survey, as well as a range of case studies and gives advice on good practice drawn from discussions with workforce and HR leads. Commenting on the toolkit, Dean Royles, director of NHS Employers, said: “Supporting staff engagement is one of the biggest priorities for the HR community in the NHS at the moment. Evidence shows us that good staff engagement directly underpins improvements in patient care, safety and financial performance. “A strong focus on staff engagement is a proven way of managing the challenges facing the NHS, as the toolkit shows us. This new resource is interactive and simple to use, and offers best practice examples and guidance to support organisations in improving levels of staff engagement.” The toolkit includes a “click and go” guide developed with the support of NHS leaders. It links good practice with delivery of the four staff pledges in the NHS Constitution, and illustrates the benefits of staff engagement, including lower absence levels, improved financial performance and higher patient satisfaction.
