Early and rapid detection of congenital heart disease

A non-invasive test that measures blood oxygen levels in newborns could help detect more congenital heart defects, says new research.

It describes how a test to measure oxygen in the blood could help to detect more major or critical heart defects in babies. Authors of the research say the blood oxygen test, also known as pulse oximetry, should be combined with current tests to help detect more cases of congenital heart disease.
