STARKSTROM has equipped 21 theatres with clinical medical gas pendants, operating theatre lights, surgeons theatre control panels and examination lights at the Peterborough City Hospital, part of the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which was completed at the end of last year.
Six of the main theatres were fitted with ultra clean canopies. In addition, two critical care areas – the adult and paediatric ITUs – were also fitted with the company’s clinical pendants. A five-year maintenance contract extends the hospital’s relationship with Starkstom, giving it access to a 24 hour technical support line and assurance that the equipment is maintained by experts. The operating theatre lights used at the hospital include several interesting features. The latest MarLED lights are lightweight, robust and easy to maintain, they are designed in a way that allows the tessellation of the light heads to produce one very large, fully adjustable, light field. The lights are also said to have an adjustable colour temperature, and an illumination depth superior to most others. The light heads are light, and have three non-sterile handles, making them easy to position. The medical gas pendants installed in the operating theatres and critical care areas also incorporate design features. For example, they feature an integral cable management system which ensures visible cabling is kept to a minimum. The pendants are easy to clean and “infection control-friendly” due to elliptical arms, extruded aluminium fascia and electrical sockets with no visible fixings, thus eliminating dirt traps.
