St Anthony’s Hospital in Cheam has introduced new cardiac health screening programme. It consists of a questionnaire, an electrocardiogram (ECG) and a blood test with the results interpreted by a cardiologist.
A written report will be sent to patients in 10 to 14 days containing details of the test results, a copy of the ECG read out, the results of cholesterol and blood pressure tests and a risk assessment for coronary artery disease. Recommendations to help improve the patients health and reduce the risk of cardiac disease will also be included. Commenting on the programme, Dr Richard Bogle, consultant cardiologist at St Anthony’s Hospital, said: “Screening for heart disease is important as it gives an estimate of the risk and we can inform the patient what they need to do, whether it is weight management, more exercise or treatment of high blood pressure.”
