Bare-metal stent implanted in the UK

The first implant in the UK of the OMEGA Platinum Chromium Bare-Metal Coronary Stent System has been performed by Dr Neal Uren, consultant cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The stent, from BOSTON SCIENTIFIC CORPORATION, recently received CE Mark approval. It incorporates a platinum chromium alloy designed specifically for coronary stenting and is intended to offer interventional cardiologists a baremetal stent with improved acute performance for treating patients with coronary artery disease. It is available in 48 sizes, ranging in diameter from 2.25 mm to 4.50 mm and in lengths from 8 mm to 32 mm.
