As endoscopes become more sophisticated, and changes in technology occur, now more than ever it is important to ensure endoscopy unit staff are fully trained on the importance of the basic knowledge of the reprocessing system, and the significant role they play within this process.
There is a common misconception that knowledge passed from nurse to nurse is as good as formal training, however over time this is often not the case, as bad practices creep in and these are passed along the training cycle. It is therefore just as important to offer long standing staff the opportunity to re-train in a formal environment as it is to those new to the area.
The chance to do this will be offered through the latest schülke forum, which will focus on refreshing attendees with this basic knowledge, offering delegates a chance to get ‘back to basics’ and refresh their skill base on key topics such as; the importance of decontamination, verification of AERs and health & safety policies and procedures. The session will also provide the ideal learning environment for anyone new to the endoscopy unit, giving a thorough overview of the process from the basic definition of a scope through to best practice procedures and protocols.
At the heart of the schülke Forum is the will to share with healthcare workers from different disciplines, evidence based - best practices collected from key NHS professionals and opinion leaders. The day will be chaired by Paul Jenkins, Decontamination Manager, North Bristol NHS Trust, along with other key figures from the field. The course is specifically designed to promote discussion amongst the attendees, with the added benefit that all speakers are there to discuss and educate, not to promote products or commercial organisations.
The study day will be held at the unique and inspiring @ Bristol Science and Discovery centre, on Monday 9th May. For further information or to book your place on the study day please contact the schülke UK office on 0114 254 3500 or visit www.schulke.co.uk
