Sandra James, chair of RCN Council, has been awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List. Sandra has been an RCN activist for over 30 years and has been given the honour for 40 years of dedication to nursing in the UK and Guernsey.
Sandra was the first Channel Islander to be elected to RCN Council, the first nurse to be seconded off Guernsey to qualify as a community psychiatric nurse, the first nurse to win the ICCI bursary to research drug and alcohol treatment centres in the UK and US, and the first clinical nurse specialist in alcohol and drug dependency to be appointed in Guernsey. Sandra is currently working to implement the Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults strategy across the Health and Social Services department in Guernsey.
