More than 80 percent of visitors to the Medica stand at UKRC said they believe that teleradiology should be regulated. The poll was taken as part of a 'Join The Debate' theme on the stand which featured live panel discussions (broadcast to a large screen on the outside of the stand), themed 'pods' where people could vote on the big issues of the day and a live 'blogpoint' where visitors could make instant contributions.
During the broadcast debates, consultant radiologists Peter Mayer and Tom Naunton- Morgan expressed concern that patient images from the UK could be reported on by non-FRCR radiologists in other countries. On other issues, 74% of visitors agreed that visiting sonographers should be NHStrained, just 55% felt that they had the resources to hit the new stroke and cancer targets and 67% agreed with the proposal that “radiology on the cheap” was a potential safety issue. Edited versions of the six debates, which included topics on ultrasound, costs vs quality and stress-related departmental burn-out, can be viewed on the Medica website at www.medicagroup.co.uk
