ABHI US Accelerator Heads to New Jersey for High-Impact BD HealthTech Visit

A delegation of pioneering UK HealthTech companies will visit the global headquarters of leading medical technology company BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, later this month, as part of the ABHI US Accelerator programme – a flagship initiative that is a launchpad for UK innovation in the United States.

The visit, taking place during the week of 28th April, will form part of a broader mission across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, designed to showcase the strength of UK HealthTech in addressing global healthcare challenges. The mission will give participating companies the opportunity to engage directly with US health systems, investors, and policy leaders, while exploring commercial and research opportunities.

“We are delighted to welcome ABHI’s US Accelerator cohort to BD’s global headquarters in New Jersey,” said Mike Fairbourn, Vice President & General Manager, UK & Ireland at BD. “Innovation is at the heart of solving healthcare’s greatest challenges. We are proud to support pioneering UK HealthTech companies as they develop solutions to some of the these most pressing healthcare challenges – bringing care closer to the community, leveraging data to drive health improvements, and advancing prevention. This visit highlights the power of shared learning, collaboration and mentorship, that will ultimately benefit patients on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Since launching in 2017, the ABHI US Accelerator has supported over 100 UK companies, with participants reporting over $150 million in business won through the programme. The initiative connects UK innovators with decision-makers across some of America’s most prestigious health systems and has brokered multiple clinical trials, pilot studies and partnerships. The upcoming visit to BD, a global leader in medical technology, will provide an invaluable opportunity for knowledge exchange, mentorship and collaboration.

Paul Benton, Managing Director, International at ABHI, said: “Our Accelerator programme is all about creating meaningful opportunities for UK HealthTech companies in the US. This visit to BD, who are a recognised global leader in healthcare innovation,  will provide unique insight and direct access to one of the most influential players in the sector. New Jersey has become a key hub for our work, and we are delighted to be continuing to build strong, collaborative links that are already delivering results.”

This visit follows a major inward mission in November 2024, when ABHI welcomed a New Jersey delegation to the UK led by Governor Phil Murphy. Organised in partnership with Choose New Jersey, the visit showcased the strength of UK innovation and further cemented New Jersey’s position as a strategic gateway for UK companies looking to expand into the US.

“We are thrilled to welcome ABHI and its cohort of UK HealthTech innovators back to New Jersey,” said Wesley Mathews, President & CEO of Choose New Jersey. “Our state is a global leader in life sciences, offering unparalleled access to top research institutions, world-class talent, and a thriving innovation ecosystem. By strengthening transatlantic partnerships like the ABHI US Accelerator, as well as the broader US-UK economic relationship, we are creating new opportunities for collaboration, investment, and groundbreaking advancements in healthcare that will benefit patients worldwide.”

The visit to BD’s global HQ will include in-depth discussions on innovation strategy, access to the US market, and future collaboration opportunities. It marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between BD and ABHI, that reinforces New Jersey’s position as a vital partner for UK companies looking to grow internationally.

UK businesses joining the trade visit include Adaptix, Aide Health, Cirdan, Cydar Medical, Directed Systems, Haigh, Medwise.ai, Megi Health, Neurex AI Limited, OPCI, OxeHealth, Psyomics, VitVio. For more information, visit www.abhi.org.uk
