Although the Infection Prevention Society Annual Conference and Exhibition, Infection Prevention 2009, commences 21 September, well over 75% of the exhibition space has already been sold. The exhibition is about 50% larger than in 2008 and already more stands have been sold than were taken last year.
This demand is in response to a series of interesting developments in the conference programme which promises to make this year’s event larger and more diverse. The Infection Prevention Society (IPS) has developed a plan for its conference which will attract three connected but distinctly different audiences. The first will be the core infection prevention practitioners who have traditionally made up its delegate attendance. The second audience will be professionals involved in IV therapy. The Society has formed a new forum which will focus on the challenges of IV therapy. There is a growing band of professionals who are designated as IV specialist nurses working in both the primary and acute care sectors. The education programme, on Tuesday 22 September, will focus on the demands of improving IV therapy for patients, not only in terms of reductions of blood stream infections but also in other areas of concern. The third audience will be nursing and care home management and staff. Free update sessions on infection control will be provided to address concerns on commonly asked infection control issues, such as hand decontamination and the reduction of MRSA rates.
