New alcohol-free wipe: 'grey is the new way'

PDI International, a leading UK manufacturer of infection control solutions, has launched its latest alcohol-free cleaning and disinfection product, Sani-Cloth AF³. This product will replace Sani-Cloth AF, featuring improvements to meet customer needs better.

Sani-Cloth AF³ is an enhanced alcohol-free, quat-based wipe, compatible with multiple surfaces found in healthcare settings. It has passed rigorous independent ASTM and ISO testing on plastics, fabrics, metals, and hard porous surfaces and is approved for over 450 non-invasive medical devices.

A significant improvement in Sani-Cloth AF³ is the reduced quaternary ammonium compound content - 0.28% compared to 0.45% in its predecessor - achieved without compromising the necessary efficacy in healthcare environments.

Initially developed by PDI Inc. over a decade ago as an alternative for alcohol-sensitive surfaces, Sani-Cloth AF³ has dominated the North American market, holding over 95% since 2020. The upgraded formulation offers faster contact times in dirty conditions (1 minute), dermatological safety for use without gloves, a longer shelf-life after opening (six months), and dual regulatory classification as a Medical Device class IIa and a biocide.

Several aspects remain unchanged from Sani-Cloth AF, including, wipe type and size, quantity per pack, shelf-life, CMR/PHMB-free formulation, and UK manufacturing.

Nina Smith, Marketing Manager of PDI International, expressed excitement over the launch: “We are excited to introduce Sani-Cloth AF³ into our portfolio, further tailoring our solutions to address common challenges and meet the specific needs of healthcare facilities. Incorporating Sani-Cloth AF³ into our range has allowed us to offer additional benefits that provide better outcomes patients, staff, medical equipment, and our planet.”

Since its launch last year, Sani-Cloth AF³ has been positively received, with users praising its unique qualities, noting that the wipe “is not soapy and it has no smell which is an added advantage.”

These benefits have made it a preferred choice for many healthcare facilities, as it addresses compatibility concerns whilst providing reliable data to support its use.

Sani-Cloth AF³, made in the UK, supports carbon reduction goals, and poses no risk to aquatic life. It is now available in a 200-count flow pack format (product code EAF3001/NHS Code VJT592).
