Essex hospitals reduce MRI waiting lists

Following close collaboration with NHS South West Essex which is responsible for the healthcare of over 420,000 people across Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock, InHealth has been contracted to provide urgent MRI and ultrasound services at Basildon University Hospital.

Despite a significant demand for MRI examinations, waiting lists had been brought down to under four weeks by Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and with the support of the PCT, the Trust commissioned InHealth to further reduce waiting times to just two weeks. Patients are provided with a wide range of examinations on twenty full days each month, at a mobile MRI unit within the hospital. The service provided by InHealth includes two highly skilled radiographers, who work alongside the hospital’s MRI superintendent radiographer, as well as an electronic reporting service which provides the hospital with diagnostic reports within just 2-3 days via fully encrypted links. Ultrasound waiting lists have also seen a significant decrease due to additional support from InHealth.
