Paul Strickland Scanner Centre has halved PET-CT scan times using a new Biograph Vision 600 from Siemens Healthineers, achieving with one system what previously required two.*
The major upgrade by the medical charity, which was made possible through donations, will primarily support increasing referrals for oncology patients and in the future could encompass neurology, such as Alzheimer’s services and research. The centre will also use the system to engage in more clinical trials and research projects, including collaborations for prostate cancer and lymphoma research.
Since its founding in 1985, the centre has operated as a dedicated medical charity, prioritising patient care over profit. The centre’s vision, to lead the way in imaging for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of cancer and other clinical conditions, is all made possible through support from donors and fundraisers. This latest investment in PET-CT technology underscores the centre’s commitment to enhancing diagnostic capabilities and expanding on PET-CT research efforts to improve early detection and treatment of diseases.
Equipped with intelligent imaging capabilities, the Biograph Vision 600 from Siemens Healthineers increases throughput while delivering consistent, accurate results, enabling confident decision-making at a low dose. Halving PET-CT scan times, the system enables the centre to deliver what previously required two systems on one.
Patients have remarked on the speed of scans which is particularly beneficial for those who are claustrophobic or have difficulty remaining still. In conjunction with the installation of the new PET-CT system, the centre has significantly remodelled its facilities to streamline the pre-scanning process, enhancing comfort and efficiency for both patients and staff.
