Healthcare leaders from Blackpool Council and NHS Trust, Samira Ben Omar Associates, and Barts Health NHS Trust, will explore the issue of narrowing health inequalities as part of a webinar in September.
With the disparity of life expectancy between the least and most deprived communities in the UK averaging a staggering 18 years, healthcare chiefs will join forces this September to ask if the NHS is the right organisation to address health inequalities, while exploring the complex factors impacting the issue.
The free ‘Narrowing health inequalities’ event is part of the “Thinking Differently” webinar series by analytics and innovation agency, Strasys.
Chaired by Dr Nadeem Moghal, Essayist, Chief Medical and Innovation Officer at Strasys and Honorary Senior Clinical Fellow at The Nuffield Trust, the webinar will cover:
- how to target the cause of health inequalities and the action needed to narrow them
- what skills, capabilities and capacity are needed to build effective business models
- real life examples of good practice from around the world.
Aiming to debate the wider determinants of health inequalities including education, economics, environment, community and culture, Consultant Trauma and Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) Surgeon, Ajit Abraham, from Barts Health NHS Trust, will give his interpretation of national policy through an organisational lens.
Using her extensive expertise, forged over 25 years working in the NHS, local authority, community and voluntary sectors, Samira Ben Omar’s talk will focus on local communities and how to target the causes of health inequalities.
Dr Arif Rajpura, Director of Public Health for Blackpool Council will give a public health perspective, while Maggie Oldham Chief Executive of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will examine workforce challenges.
A question and answer session will allow the audience to quiz speakers.
