National training resource funded

Sheffield based B. Braun Medical is providing a state-of-the-art laboratory for the training of doctors at the Royal College of Surgeons’ (RCS) London headquarters.

The company has committed substantial funds in its largest single sponsorship deal, to equip a super-skills lab as part of the “Eagle Project”, which will see a major re-development of the College’s teaching and development unit. B. Braun’s donation will furnish a dedicated model skills laboratory, which will provide trainees and experienced surgeons with the latest hands-on surgical training facilities.

Jonathan Fountain, development director at RCS, said: “The Eagle Project will enable surgeons to test new instruments and new techniques for use in their own operating theatres so that patients get the best. The RCS will run intensive hands-on workshops at the new centre, which will span basic surgical skills courses – for example, courses in suturing for early stage trainees, or master classes in neurosurgery for senior consultants.”
