Future innovation trends in surgery

Technology is rapidly changing within the operating theatre, so what are some of the promising innovations set to transform surgery in the future? The Clinical Services Journal explores some of the key developments that could have a significant impact.

The Commission on the Future of Surgery predicts that surgery will be transformed over the next two decades by increasing advances in intelligence and digital technology within the operating theatre.1 There are a number of influential developments that will have a significant impact – from big data, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality, to enhanced imaging, 3D printing, genomics and robotics.
