Stoke Mandeville bosses have avoided prosecution for their handling of an outbreak of C.diff , which caused 33 deaths and infected 334 patients, after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ruled there was insufficient admissible evidence.
The Buckingham Hospitals NHS Trust failed to follow advice on stopping the spread of the infection and the HSE’s investigation revealed a number of areas where more could have been done. The Trust has now addressed these and has launched disciplinary proceedings against doctors who are not complying with hand washing routines between patients.
