Maternity information system goes live

Huntleigh Healthcare has announced that the eclipse Maternity Information System has now gone “live” at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. Eclipse will improve data collection, assist in audit to enable consistent evaluation of care and improve communication between agencies, which will assist midwives in their role in providing optimal standards of care for the women and babies in their care.

Once fully implemented across the county it will assist midwives, GP’s and obstetricians
planning and providing care for over 5000 women and their babies each year. Eclipse was chosen to reduce the time spent waiting for information about previous care and investigations. It will also provide a systematic way of recording birth information that can be summarised for community midwives, GP’s and health visitors.

Head of Midwifery for Shropshire, Cathy Smith commented “Approximately 200 midwives have attended IT training in preparation of the launch of this system and are now rapidly increasing their IT skills whilst continuing to give excellent midwifery care. Changing the way we record information is a challenge in a very busy clinical environment, particularly as we have many staff who have been with us for over 20 years it is a credit to their ability to adapt and embrace new ways of working.”
