A decade following the foundation of Bevan’s National Health Service, pioneering nurse Daisy Ayris MBE was inspired to establish an organisation specifically for advancing the safety of surgical patients. 60 years on, Daisy’s legacy is being celebrated in an inclusive educational event at the University of York open to all practitioners working in the perioperative environment
In 1958, Daisy Ayris MBE travelled to the United States to meet Dee Hall, founder of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN, now the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses). The meeting led to the formation of the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP), which is now the UK’s leading membership association for practitioners working in pre, intra, and postoperative care.
AfPP’s annual event, the Residential Conference, offers two days of CPDaccredited education, an exhibition, and opportunities to network and socialise with likeminded practitioners. The event takes place on 9 to 12 August with more than 400 delegates and 40 exhibitors in attendance, including medical device companies, nonprofit organisations and publishers.
