Magnetic system supports early cancer treatment

What is claimed to be the world’s first magnetic surgical guidance system issupporting the early treatment of breast cancer. The Clinical Services Journal speaks to Endomag, to find out more.

Globally, the incidence of cancer is growing and so is the demand for better, faster and less expensive solutions for diagnosis and treatment.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, with 1.7 million new cases globally every year and 522,000 deaths. Sadly, this figure is expected to double by 2030. Breast cancer is also the most frequent cause of cancer death in women in less developed regions and is now the second cause of cancer death in more developed regions after lung cancer.

However, advancements in technology mean that if breast cancer is caught early enough, then 99% of women will still be alive five years after diagnosis and treatment, compared to an overall five year survival rate of 40% in the 1970s.
