Conferences such as Sepsis Unplugged are crucial if we are to save the thousands of lives that sepsis claims every year – more than breast cancer, bowel cancer, prostate cancer and HIV/AIDS combined. High on the agenda, this year, will be the need to focus on maternal sepsis and the challenges of diagnosis and management of sepsis in children.
The UK Sepsis Trust has announced that Sepsis Unplugged 2018 will take place from the 5-6 February at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham. Dr Ron Daniels BEM, chief executive of the UK Sepsis Trust, commented: “At Sepsis Unplugged 2018, we’ll be leaving attitudes and egos at the door. Traditional academic meetings have failed to reliably improve outcomes or engage the wider healthcare system, so this conference is about bringing together health professionals and patient groups as equals.”
At Sepsis Unplugged 2018, a range of practical workshops, discussion panels and interactive sessions lead the way for a truly novel, inspiring experience. High profile speakers will provide a comprehensive and up-to-date review of sepsis to include; the patient perspective, examining patient information, management of paediatric sepsis, maternal sepsis, and lots more.
Dr Daniels continued: “Our focus on maternal sepsis this year will give voice to the many pregnant women who suffer from sepsis each year in the UK, and we’ll continue our fight to reduce annual UK mortality from sepsis from 44,000 to 25,000 within the next five years. There’s a great deal of work to do, and we’re delighted that, with the invaluable support of our exhibitors, we’ll be taking important steps forward at this year’s conference.”
