Stone treatment advance

Afurther advance in the treatment of kidney stones has been announced by Cook Urology.

The company has introduced the 1.5 French NCircle Tipless Stone Extractor which allows clinicians to capture even the most challenging kidney or ureteral stones during ureteroscopy.

The 1.5 French NCircle Tipless Stone Extractor is made from nitinol, a shapememory alloy that combines nickel and titanium. The miniscule extractor basket retains its shape following extreme torsion yet is sufficiently flexible for a clinician to guide during stone manipulation without damage to surrounding renal tissue.

Cook told The Clinical Services Journal that the extractor’s comprehensive stone removal capability meant that patients could be stone free after a single treatment procedure.

The extractor facilitated an excellent irrigation flow through a scope, allowing an unobstructed field of vision and thereby reducing procedure time.
