Weston Area Health NHS Trust has announced the appointment of Dr Peter Collins as its new medical director.
Dr Collins begins his role immediately, overseeing the management of the Trust’s consultant body as well as doctors in training.
He brings a wealth of clinical experience from his previous position as a consultant hepatologist where he had regional and national roles in clinical research and liver cancer services. He was also a training programme director for core medical training and a Royal College of Physicians tutor.
He joins Weston from his most recent role as clinical chair for University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) where he took a lead role in redesigning the hospital’s model of medical care to align more closely with its patient’s needs.
Speaking about his appointment and why he joined the Trust, Peter said: “I’m really happy to be joining the team. Weston is a very special place to work; both rewarding and challenging with exceptional staff that are passionate about delivering good quality, safe patient care.
“I very much look forward to working closely with the team at Weston to continue our quality improvement work and improve the experiences of all those who use our services.”
Welcoming him to the Trust, James Rimmer, chief executive Weston Area Health NHS Trust said: “I’m delighted that Dr Collins has joined us as our new medical director. His strong medical background and wealth of experience will be of great benefit to us.
“Peter is a very experienced clinical leader who knows the Trust well and has a strong understanding of the local health community and the partners we work with. I have full confidence that his rigorous approach will improve the quality of care that we deliver.”
