Stronger supply arrangement

P3 Medical has amalgamated three established suppliers to hospitals in the UK and overseas – Amba Medical, Phoenix Medical and Promedica.

The main objective of the group is to eliminate duplicated resources and increase the strength and capacity of the three predecessor companies with the long-term view of improving the value and cost-effectiveness of products to the end customer in the hospital.

P3’s board considers that consolidation in the supply chain for medical devices is inevitable and the actions it has taken in the last year is a direct response to that. In short the board is convinced that the three businesses acting together will be, in the long run, better positioned to offer an effective proposition as a supplier than they would as independent companies.

The common thread between the three businesses is that they all supply hospitals in some form, and the biggest area of concentration is in products for the operating theatre. Products used in the operating room extend from the Robertshaw endobronchial tube, used in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and developed with Phoenix by Dr Robertshaw in the 1950s, through to Amba’s innovative Quick Change camera drape, and to Promedica’s wide range of single-use drapes, gowns and accessories. Promedica’s range of products for the sterilisation department will also continue to be available through the new organisation.

In addition, the business offers a substantial range of essential items for general ward use such as patient identification bands and paper bags for waste disposal.
