Health informatics professionals are at the centre of improvements to patient care, it was stressed at a recent conference.
Over 400 health informatics professionals met at the conference which had the theme “Preparing for the Future, Today”.
ASSIST, the professional association for informatics professionals in health and social care, in collaboration with NHS Connecting for Health’s ETD Programme, provided a unique chance for health informatics professionals to hear from national experts on what the future will hold.
The impressive surroundings of the Leeds Town Hall provided a platform to celebrate some of the profession’s many successes in improving health services, as part of the NHS Leadership in Health Informatics Accolade Scheme. Presenting the Accolade Awards, Sir Muir Gray set the scene in a passionate analysis of the vital role of health informatics. Drawing parallels with the role of clean water in improving health in the 19th Century, he inspired the audience with his assessment that in the 21st Century “knowledge is the enemy of disease”.
The key message from the day was the power of policy makers and informatics professionals working together on the innovative use of IT and information to improve patient care.
