Diagnostic test range extended

OXOID has extended its range of diagnostic tests available for the detection of urinary tract infections with the addition of RapID SS/u (Site Specific – urine). This easy-to-use enzymatic test panel is able to identify the major urinary tract pathogens, including E.coli, Klebsiella spp, Enterobacter spp, Enterococcus spp, Staphylococcus spp and Candida albicans, within just two hours.

Biocidal cleanser launched

Sheffield-based CAIRN TECHNOLOGY has teamed up with Amity International from Barnsley to fight “superbugs” such as MRSA, SARS, HIV, and Chinese Bird Flu. Virusolve+, a new biocidal cleanser developed by Amity International and distributed by Cairn Technology, will kill superbugs at room temperature in less than a minute.

Hand-carried ultrasound aids vascular access

King’s College Hospital NHS Trust, a major London teaching hospital, has recently installed 12 hand-carried ultrasound (HCU) “iLook 25” systems from SONOSITE. The system enables users to better visualise veins and arteries, increase efficiency, raise user confidence, improve patient care, minimise hospital risk and maximise departmental uptime. They will also enable units in the Trust to comply fully with the recent NICE guidelines which recommend the use of ultrasound guidance in the insertion of CVCs.
