We need to talk about gloves...
Arka Medical
We need to talk about gloves...gloves are a vital part of personal protective equipment. But too often, they are used too frequently and for too long. And we have come to rely on gloves as a 'second skin', especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The overuse of gloves has several important consequences, including the increased risk of transmission, environmental impacts, increased cost, and a reduction in skin health for staff. This presentation will provide an overview on when we should use gloves (and when we shouldn't!), how we should select the most appropriate glove to use for the risks associated with the task at hand, a consideration of the origin and supply chain for our gloves, and a practical example of a campaign to reduce glove usage.
Speaker: Dr. Jon Otter - an active researcher in the field of infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance and the Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
