Endoscopy decontamination investment

The new £172 million Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr – the biggest single NHS project in Gwent in 40 years – is part of the Aneurin Bevan Health Board which serves an estimated population of over 639,000, approximately 21% of the total Welsh population.

For Endoscopy Lead Sister Nicola Henson and her team, the move from the Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital has meant a big change but one of the things that has not changed is they are still using WASSENBURG technology in the decontamination unit. After leak detection and a thorough manual cleaning in the sinks, each scope is connected to one of two Wassenburg WD440 PT pass-through AERs. Once the decontamination is complete, the scope is retrieved on the ‘clean’ side of the unit and then inserted into one of two Wassenburg DRY300 drying and storage cabinets. All of this technology will be on display at the DDF event in Liverpool
