New operating theatre for Nuffield

KARL STORZ ENDOSCOPY UK has recently finished work on an exciting project at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. The project saw the group’s first ever installation of a high-definition digital theatre, Karl Storz’s OR1 NEO.

The new theatre is designed for laparoscopic surgery, and means patients in the South West will undergo their treatment with the most technologically advanced equipment. The OR1 NEO installed at Plymouth has touch screen controls and connections to the hospital network, allowing the surgical team to access patient notes and images. It has high definition broadcast capture using a 3- chip digital camera system in full HD, and features three HD LCD monitors, one for the surgeon and two for the theatre staff, meaning they are able to anticipate the surgeon’s needs at all times. This system allows the capture and archiving of surgical images for medical records and live digital streaming for training purposes. The OR1 NEO’s fully adjustable coloured room lighting provides improved contrast of endoscopic images and the reduction of background glare and flicker to reduce eye strain.
