Octenidine-containing solution and gel available on the drug tariff

Octenilin Wound Irrigation Solution and Octenilin Wound Gel are now available on the drug tariff, meaning they can be prescribed and are reimbursable.

Results from a care home evaluation of the products have shown that over 70% of nurses felt that Octenilin reduced the need for antibiotics due to it providing the ideal moist healing environment and good antibacterial activity. Both products, available from SCHÜLKE UK, contain octenidine – an antimicrobial ingredient which has a broad antimicrobial effect, including multi-resistant strains and shows very good skin and mucous membrane tolerability. Both the solution and the gel can be used to treat burns, pressure sores, leg ulcers and any type of skin wound.
