Mobile cell salvage for smaller hospitals

Patients who require a blood transfusion in smaller hospitals often do not have the same choices as those in larger hospitals. Most orthopaedic, vascular and spinal surgeons, when working within the NHS, routinely give patients their own blood back intra-operatively, in order to avoid a donor transfusion. The demand for this technology is usually low in smaller NHS hospitals and the private sector and it is not cost and resource-effective to safely deliver an in-house cell saver service.

MOBILE BLOOD SAVERS (MBS) carries out cell salvage in over 50 UK hospitals, both in the NHS and all the private hospital groups. Using the service, hospitals can offer all patients this advantage, whether the demand is once a week or only a few times a year. MBS will provide the expert operator and all the necessary equipment, whenever or wherever needed, for a safe, reliable cell salvage procedure.

Advantages of cell salvage are well documented and have been carried out in most major NHS hospitals for over 25 years. Patient benefits include reduced stay in hospital, less infection risk and the availability of fully functioning red blood cells at the important perioperative period.
