An advanced wound care dressing for moderate to highly exudating wounds has been introduced to the UK by SYNERGY HEALTH, suppliers of Comfifast.
Hydrofera Blue is a simple, safe and effective antimicrobial wound dressing with its origins in blood purification. It is constructed of hydrophilic poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) foam that can absorb up to 25 times its own weight in fluid. The PVA foam is combined with two active, organic pigments – Gentian Violet and Methylene Blue. The organic pigments provide broad-spectrum bactericidal activity while the properties of the foam provide a platform to manage exudates, while simultaneously binding and eliminating endotoxins. This construction means no antimicrobials are deposited in the wound – all of the activity happens within the dressing. Hydrofera Blue is effective against the most common pathogens found in wounds, including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA); Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; E. coli and Vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE).
