There is currently a lot of discussion and debate over the scientific evidence and associated risk factors related to decontamination of surgical instruments in respect of their transport conditions, should they be transported wet or dry?
At Peskett Solutions Ltd we believe that if surgical instruments are left over night or over the weekend before they are reprocessed. Not only will the contaminated soil dry on the instruments making it more difficult to remove, especially in the lumen of cannulated instruments. The salt content of the contaminated soil may corrode the instruments. To prevent this Ruhof have developed two specific products to tackle this problem, Prepzyme and Prepzyme XF both designed to keep the instruments moist during transportation with rust inhibitors to prevent corrosion during this period.
The Prepzyme XF is a pH neutral multi -tiered enzymatic aerosol foam spray that prevents the adhesion of soil to the surface and lumen of all surgical instruments and scopes. This specially designed product covers the instruments with thick foam that penetrates all the nooks and crannies of the instrument or scope and begins breaking down blood, fat, protein and carbohydrates on contact, starting the cleaning process immediately.
Its WD40 type adaptor allows the effective cleaning of the majority of cannulated instruments and scopes, preventing contaminated soil from drying during transportation.
