Steris showcases the BioGenie hydrogen peroxide disinfectant system

Compact, cost-effective system and comprehensive range of sterilisation products on display on stand W18 at Infection Prevention 2011.

STERIS is a global leader in decontamination and infection control, providing innovative sterilisation products and solutions for the healthcare environment supported by comprehensive validation, testing and maintenance services. The Company offers a broad range of products to meet the decontamination needs of healthcare environments, and Infection Prevention 2011 offers an excellent opportunity to see products and meet the STERIS team face-to-face.

STERIS will showcase the innovative BioGenie hydrogen peroxide disinfectant delivery system, specifically designed to provide safe and effective bio-decontamination in the clinical setting. This compact, manoeuvrable system complements the existing range of STERIS advanced vaporised hydrogen peroxide (VHP®) solutions, offering rapid and simple reduction of pathogens such as MRSA, C. difficile, E. coli, and norovirus, to create a safer environment for patients and healthcare professionals. The BioGenie system uses Hyproxil Active™ disinfectant cartridges – combining just six per cent hydrogen peroxide with colloidal silver – to offer a high level of bioprotection. This powerful disinfectant offers outstanding biocidal performance at lower concentrations than comparable products. The cartridge-based system uses onboard liquid and pressure sensors to ensure reliable operation – with automated shutdown in the unlikely event of a leak – and further enhances operator safety by eliminating direct contact with the disinfectant.

The BioGenie is easy to programme via an intuitive touchscreen, with a wide range of fully automated decontamination cycles and an average cycle run time of just three hours. The tamper-proof design, high visibility warning lights and built-in security features ensure safe operation in any healthcare setting, and a fully downloadable audit trail simplifies biosecurity management. BioGenie systems are already used by many healthcare centres across the UK, providing a straightforward and cost-effective method of infection control.

In addition, take a closer look at the Prolystica® range of highly concentrated cleaning chemistries that have been specially formulated to provide superior cleaning performance in hospital washer/disinfector units and automated mechanical washers against blood, mucous and the most challenging fatty soils associated with orthopedic cases. The dual enzyme system works exceptionally well regardless of water quality or type and is compatible with stainless steel, plastics and soft metals including aluminum.

Alongside these latest innovations will also be the full range of Albert Browne sterility assurance products, including chemical indicators for monitoring key parameters in all types of commonly used sterilisation processes including steam, formaldehyde, ethylene oxide gas and dry heat. The comprehensive range of Browne products includes Bowie Dick tests, chemical indicators and integrators, used worldwide in CSSDs, operating theatres, general practice and dental surgeries, as well as in industry.
