After lobbying from the MS Society and after a recent consultation, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is to update the clinical guideline for MS.
The guideline is currently eight years old, and the MS Society has been pushing for it to be updated to take account of new research and advances in treatments in recent years. The MS Society welcomes the news but is concerned that no date has been set for the guideline to be updated, and that the scope of the update will be too narrow. NICE is also yet to confirm whether a quality standard will be developed, which would provide a benchmark for quality of care and services for people with MS. The MS Society has said that it will continue to press NICE and will be working alongside the MS Taskforce to ensure an update of the guideline is awarded first priority.
