Results of a HTA project indicate that hysterectomies are the most cost-effective solution for heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), but less invasive techniques should be offered first.
While the surgery is more expensive than less invasive methods, results show that, over time, hysterectomies can be costeffective and result in a better quality of life. Women reported higher rates of satisfaction after hysterectomy despite an increased risk of complications, longer recovery time and risk of future surgery for stress urinary incontinence.
