Staff uniforms meet image and identity criteria

Garment specialist firm Grahame Gardner was recently drafted in to lift the image of both clinical and non-clinical staff on the children’s wards at Watford and Hemel Hempstead General Hospitals. The facilities were looking for uniforms which improved the hospital experience for patients and carers alike, and Grahame Gardner was chosen as its garments and services had the potential to fulfil this brief.

The staff all felt that the uniforms should reflect the working environment, making them look more approachable and also, if possible, reducing the confusion over which members of staff to contact for clinical or non-clinical problems. The company worked alongside the staff to resolve both these issues. Child-friendly prints were used within garments for non-clinical staff while clinical staff opted for a range of different colours, including blue, red and white, making the most of Graham Gardner’s unique staff identity system to differentiate staff by their nursing grade and department. Efforts were made to ensure these two approaches fitted into a distinctive cohesive identity.
