A campaign to raise awareness of the work of Children’s Hospices is being backed by Simon Cowell, patron of Children’s Hospices UK.
This follows the publication of research, commissioned as part of this year’s Children’s Hospice Week, which revealed that there is a lack of understanding about the valuable support that Children’s Hospices provide for life-limited children, young people, and their families. When asked to name an organisation that cares for children not expected to reach adulthood, more than 73% of those surveyed did not cite Children’s Hospices. This low awareness and understanding could mean that some families are missing out on the valuable services on offer. Cowell said: “A children’s hospice is more than just a building. It is an environment which creates happiness, and I cannot tell you how important this is. And it’s not just the kids, it’s the families as well, of course, that need help. The reality is, every one of these hospices relies on the public’s generosity to maintain what they’re doing, otherwise they don’t exist”.
