Reducing drug wastage

INFUTECH has introduced extension sets for use with its infusion systems. The Saflo extension sets are said to reduce drug wastage, while also improving ease of handling during the subcutaneous administration process.

The microvolume extension sets are available as standard, or with an antifreeflow valve. Both use tri-layer tubing, with an outer layer of soft PVC for flexibility and an inner layer of hard plastic that prevents kinking and is impervious to surface uptake of drugs. It is this technology – with a priming volume of less than 0.2 mL – that helps to reduce drug wastage. The extensions can be used to administer most non-blood products, wherever a subcutaneous needle or IV cannula requires connection with a pump. They are suitable in ambulatory treatment of chronic conditions that use miniature pumps, and also for any administration process using syringe drivers.
