Dressing contains PHMB

Wound Infection presents a challenge to those in the wound healing field and it is important that practitioners keep abreast of new developments, such as the Suprasorb X+PHMB dressing which is available from ACTIVA.

It is said to be the first moist wound dressing to contain Polyhexamethylene biguanid (PHMB) and can be used by clinicians as a first line treatment for infected wounds and patients felt to be “at risk”. PHMB is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent that is effective against bacteria, fungi and yeasts, including MRSA and VRE. It has been in general use for over 50 years – with no evidence of the development of resistance. The dressing is suitable for use on children without the risk of systemic absorption and the moist wound dressing allows gentle removal. The company will also be showing a new unisex patterned medical compression sock which has been designed to be cosmetically pleasing as well as comfortable for the wearer.
