New MD for AfPP

The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP), which operates across 15 UK regions, has appointed healthcare specialist Dawn Stott as its new managing director. Originally founded in 1964 as the National Association of Theatre Nurses, AfPP is regularly called on by the Government to shape best practice in surgical healthcare and to help pioneer improvements in patient safety. Dawn Stott has amassed 15 years’ experience in primary and secondary healthcare.

Her previous roles include practice manager for a 9,000-patient surgery in Leeds and project manager for a private hospital group specialising in hospital new builds and IT systems. The new MD, who is also a business writer and is currently authoring a guide to effective healthcare management, has underpinned her industry knowledge with a certificate in business management from the Open University.

Dawn Scott said: “AfPP’s vision and mission is to improve patient care through developing and promoting leading standards of perioperative practice. The healthcare sector is continually evolving and we are constantly striving to proactively drive improvements, influence healthcare decisions, comment on research and produce authoritative publications.”

She added: “I’m honoured to be entrusted with ensuring our services are closely aligned to the needs of the market place and our membership. We recognise that the knowledge and experience of our members – who span all areas of the perioperative environment – are our greatest resources and I am keen to harness all that expertise to help bring about real change for the better in our sector, which will ultimately improve patient safety.”
