The Lord Mayor of Sheffield has officially opened a new PET/CT scanning centre at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The centre provides a permanent home for the latest in cutting-edge diagnostic technology to NHS patients in the city and the surrounding area.
The centre is run on behalf of the NHS by Alliance Medical, as part of a Government Contract to provide improved access to PET/CT for cancer patients in Yorkshire. It replaces the mobile PET/CT scanner which served the region from January 2006. At the heart of the centre is a Philips Gemini TF PET/CT scanner, the first in the UK to be installed outside London.
