From prevention of IV infection and surgical site infection, to tackling the threat of pandemic flu, the IPS 2009 conference is set to discuss the latest challenges faced by healthcare professionals. The Clinical Services Journal provides an insight into the topical issues that will be explored at the event.
In recognition of the 50 year anniversary of the appointment of the first infection control nurse, this year’s theme for the Infection Prevention Society’s conference and exhibition will be: “Celebrating the past, looking to the future”. Taking place at the Harrogate International Centre, 21-23 September 2009, the IPS 2009 conference and exhibition is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of healthcare workers, including specialists in infection prevention and those with responsibility for delivering reductions in healthcareassociated infections and service improvement. The largest infection prevention event in the UK, it will attract over 500 delegates, 120 exhibiting companies and offers a wide range of lectures and workshops spread over three action packed days. There will also be an entertaining social programme including, an evening reception, a casino evening, a golden gala dinner and more. The conference is split into three distinct sections:
• An infection prevention conference for medical and nursing staff which will include many highlights on the ever changing world of infection prevention.
• A one-day conference for IV specialists focusing not only on the issues of infection prevention but on other developments in intravenous therapy.
• A series of update lectures for nursing and care home staff on the fundamentals of infection prevention running over two days.
